Why two dentists might recommend different treatment for the same dental issue?
This can be because the dentist might see the same problem, but they might prioritize different treatments depending on different risks, timelines, and the patient's goals.
How a dentist's philosophy (conservative versus proactive) might change a dental treatment plan?
We can see it a couple of different ways. Sometimes a conservative dentist might try to just patch or do small things to take care of the issue as simply and easily as possible. Whereas a proactive dentist might try to take care of a smaller issue proactively to prevent it from becoming a bigger issue.
Here at Reiser Dental, we usually take a mixture of both. We proactively treat small issues right away with very conservative treatment to hopefully achieve the most long-term beneficial effect for the patient.
How does technology and diagnostic treatment tools affect a dentist's treatment plan?
New technology, such as our digital X-rays, 3D scanning, and intraoral scanning, can help us find underlying causes or issues that weren't seen before or we could not detect before.
How does a patient's long-term oral health goals affect a dental treatment plan?
If a patient would like to keep their teeth long-term, we usually try to recommend the most sturdy treatment options possible to ensure that we can provide treatment that will hopefully last for the rest of their life, helping with function and health.
What should patients consider when looking over two different treatment plans and deciding which one is best for them?
When looking at two different treatment plans, we usually ask you to consider the plan's longevity, cost over time, how it will affect your comfort, and how it will protect your dental health for the rest of your life.
How does a personalized custom treatment plan help identify and treat each individual's patient needs?
When creating a personalized treatment plan for you here at Reiser Dental, we consider your bite, function, overall health, and any underlying medical conditions to put together a comprehensive treatment plan. This plan will address the entirety of your needs to help provide the perfect treatment plan that will meet your long-term health goals.
When might cosmetic treatment planning be included in an overall comprehensive treatment plan for your health?
There are multiple times when this can happen. One, cosmetic dental treatments can be entirely up to you. If you're interested in improving your cosmetics, it's simply a discussion we need to have, and we can go over the options to improve your appearance.
Otherwise, if while we are executing your treatment plan, it improves the way your teeth fit together, function, and appearance just by addressing the underlying issues, it can also provide a cosmetic benefit.
What advice would I give to a patient on how to decide on what treatment plan to go forward with when getting multiple treatment plans from different dental providers?
The answer is simple. Ask as many questions as you can. I would choose the office or doctor that can clearly and properly explain the outcomes, reasoning, and why behind each treatment. After they can discuss and explain it to you, go with whomever you feel you have more trust with.
